This is an example of the poisonous Manchioneel tree which grows throughout the eastern Caribbean region. This one is maintained as a warning by the US Park Service near the beach anchorage on Buck Island off the northeast coast of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. The small print on the sign says: "The small green sweet smelling apple-like fruit can cause death. The sap is irritating to the skin so do not let children climb these trees. Do not stand under the trees during a rain storm or use the branches for firewood."
